This Common Sense Discussion, facilitated by Cathy Andeson, will include a brief overview of the document, author, and themes presented. The discussion topics will focus on the impact of the pamphlet in 1776 and then turn to the relevance of the themes to us today. Reading Common Sense in advance is highly recommended, but not required.

Common Sense, published by Thomas Paine in January 1776, was a highly influential pamphlet that argued for American independence from Great Britain, using plain language to persuade ordinary colonists to support revolution. It attacked the monarchy and British rule, making a powerful case for a republican government and becoming a bestseller that galvanized public opinion and influenced the Declaration of Independence.

Join us at our film and potluck on June 8, pick up a copy of the book and then join us to discuss the pamphlet that sparked the American Revolution.
